60 Minutes of Printing for $60

I have a lot of overstock fine art paper from 60″ rolls down to 8.5×11″ cut sheets that I want you to use up. There are a variety of papers many of which I ordered just for testing… and a few surprises.

On Thursday August 19th we will have ten (10) one hour appointments to print as much as you can.

You arrive for your appointment, look through our overstocked papers, give us your image/s and we will print as much as we can in your time slot. Prints have to finish by the end of the hour so we will determine when to send the last file to the printer. Some papers may run out so you may end up with prints on different papers. It’s up to you if you want to print a few big prints or lots of little ones.

To reserve your one hour slot you must email us starting at 9:00:00 AM on Friday August 13th. The first 10 emails that we receive and make a confirmation deposit will reserve their spot.

House of the Americas Turns 100: Paul Philippe Cret and the Architecture of Dialogue An exhibition on the Organization of American States (OAS) Headquarters Building

Ken Allen Digital located in Alexandria, VA recently completed the printing, fabrication and installation of the graphics for this centennial celebration. Working with Pure + Applied, a design firm in New York, the exhibit transformed the entire first floor of the Art Museum of the Americas located at 201 18th Street, NW Washington, DC.

12 foot by 25 foot wall graphic

Full-size wall graphics reproduce the original building plans on a large scale – 12 feet tall and up to 25 feet long – to dramatic effect.
This exhibit is one of the first using a new medium that has better density and color than the standard wall vinyls. Seams are more invisible and the polypropylene base is uniquely strong for its light weight, allowing for greater versatility and better installation results.
KAD began the project by digitizing and retouching almost 50 vintage photographs from the collections of OAS, setting up a temporary digitization system on-site in their library. Photographs were scanned at a very high resolution of up to 1200ppi to allow for extreme enlargement and rendering of all photographic details.

Museum of the City of New York digitization project

April 27, 2010 by kasnews

Our most recent success at the Museum of the City of New York (MCNY) has revolutionized their digital image library. We won a 7 month project to digitize 28,000 photographs, we completed 39,000 (140% of the goal!). MCNY is ecstatic about our accomplishments and has received great press about the digitization project, as well as on the several exhibits and books that we have produced for the MCNY. Here is one story from NY 1, the local New York City news station:

———-
The 15th exhibition in the room for paper showcases recent photographs by Susan Mikula, whose work was introduced in the gallery last September in the Transfocus group show. Mikula lives and works in New York and Western Massachusetts with her partner, political commentator Rachel Maddow.

The pieces for this series, entitled American Device, were all photographed in 2009 at locations along the Port of Long Beach in California and the industrial ocean front from New Orleans to Galveston, particularly the Bolivar Peninsula. They were shot with a vintage Polaroid SX-70 using outdated film.

Mikula’s approach shares formal concerns with painters in the gallery in that she pays particular attention to the physicality and scale of her supports, and her use of an almost impressionistic focus emphasizes color and light. The softening of Mikula’s industrial landscape is reminiscent of Monet’s study of the Rouen Cathedral. Her consideration of her picture as an object, however, aligns her with the dialogue amongst painters in the wake of Robert Ryman’s white paintings. Her imagery is evocative, calling up intangible feelings and associations, yet her means are disciplined, drawing upon the full range of her photographic medium to assert a concrete presence.
